MARIEPSKOP CELEBRATES THEIR ACHIEVEMENT OF WINNING THE BEST TOURISM ATTRACTION 2019 AWARD IN BUSHBUCKRIDGE

The Bushbuckridge Local Municipality, together with the Bushbuckridge Local Tourism Organization hosted their Bushbuckridge Business and Tourism Awards event at Endhaweni lodge on the 8th of June 2019.

The event honoured local businesses and tourism sites. Amongst them all, Mariepskop Forest, Andover Nature Reserve and Manyeleti Nature Reserve were in the same category for best attraction, but as we all know that there has to be one winner,1st place in that category went to Mariepskop Forest.

The Mariepskop staff and Manager were very thrilled by this achievement and mentioned that they feel proud and are motivated to work even harder for their beautiful forest to shine even brighter. “This was a first of its kind, we all knew that Mariepskop is a beauty but to be recognized and to be presented with such award is a privilege and with this kind of publicity we can only grow stronger” said Mr. W Mashego, Manager of the Forest.

Many people are not aware of the beauty and calmness that lies up in the mountain, not only is it the best tourism attraction but an important catchment area because most of the Ecosystem services such as Water, Traditional Medicine and Recreational activities that the downstream communities rely on originated in the mountain.

Since the Government is working hard to unlock opportunities within the tourism sector, Awards like these are a great start to also encourage local youth to start Cooperatives or register tourism focused businesses for their development and to strengthen the Economy. By creating tourism attraction hotspots around the Bushbuckridge-Acornhoek areas we can all fight against unemployment.
